The Burning Times

The Burning Times

The Leape Indian myth about how crows feathers grew black.

Crow was a white and lovely bird with a beautiful voice. The first people were cold and had no fire. Crow flew to the great spirit to ask for Fire and he was given a burning twig. As he flew home the soot and smoke covered Crow, making him black and turning his voice hoarse. He now wears his black feathers proudly.

Crows need for shinny objects surpassed self preservation. In one very dry tomb that I was reading, it stated that crows will bring burning twigs to their nest, because of their glitter and shine.
